What Is A Chakra?

Quite simply a chakra is an energy centre or vortex in your body.  The word ‘chakra’ comes from the Sanskrit word for wheel or disk.  Even thought new chakras are being discovered all the time, the Hindu system refers to seven.  This article will tell you everything you need to know about chakras, moreover, we’re going to talk about nine of them.

Chakra work is based on the idea of wholeness.  Consequently, in order to achieve total well-being we must balance all of the systems in our body.

In fact, chakras operate like interconnected valves that channel the electrical current from the atmosphere, through our bodies and to the ground.

Why Is Chakra Balancing Important?

Actually, the objective of chakra work is to create balance in each energy centre.  Specifically, to slow down chakras that are spinning to fast and to speed up blocked chakras that may be still or slow-spinning.

As a result, when we work towards balancing our energy centres this balance has a positive impact on our mind, our immune system and our body.

In fact, each chakra operates at a unique frequency.  Specifically, this frequency determines the colour and characteristics of the energy centre.

When all chakras are spinning in harmony, the system operates as ONE.

We want to envision chakras as if they are cogs in a wheel and interconnected. Accordingly, this helps us to appreciate that an imbalance in one chakra can lead to an imbalance in one or more other chakras.

There are many schools of thought discussing the triggers for imbalance.  For example, some believe that we bring a karmic pre-programming into this physical existence. 

Another idea is that chakra programming takes place in our childhood, fed by family and society.  Specifically, if we are criticised in our younger years we confuse our emotional insecurity with our survival needs.  Consequently, to protect ourselves we close our chakras as a defence mechanism.

Realistically, we must also consider the chicken and egg situation linked to health.  Specifically, which comes first, the chakra imbalance or the health problem. 

Truly, the triggers are probably interchangeable.  However, it’s important to realise that when we experience any form of emotional or physical trauma at any time in our life, it can impact our energetic system.

Chakras And Your Body - Let's Talk About The Endocrine System

The endocrine system is one of the bodies main physical control systems.  Specifically, it is made up of ductless glands responsible for the production of hormones. Actually, different organs secrete these chemicals or homones into bloodstream.  Consequently, that secretion stimilates or inhibits certain processes.

Without doubt, the endocrine system helps us maintain optimum health. In fact, just as each of the chakras work together, the endocrine system works with the nervous system.  Therefore, imbalance in our chakras can create both emotional and physical dysfunction.

Everything You Need to Know About Chakra Support & Healing

There are several approaches you can take to create balance in your chakra system.  Some approaches involve working with a professional and others you can control by managing your diet, your exercise and your rest.

Physical Exercise

With the exception of the third eye, which responds to mental discipline, all chakras responsd well to physical exercise.  For example, cardiovascular is particularly useful for balancing the root chakra.  Actually, if you want to bring balance to all of your chakras one of the best all-round exercises you can do is yoga.

Foods

We all know that a balanced diet is a good way to keep our immune system strong and healthy.  In fact, each of the chakras benefits from a particular type of food.  Accordingly, those foods are listed in the table below.

Crystals

Crystals oscillate to a natural healing frequency.  As a result, carrying crystals in your pockets or keeping them close to your body can support you in releasing imbalance.  The specific crystals relating to each chakra are listed in the table below.

Energy Healing

Therapies such as Acupuncture, Reiki, Kinesiology, Tai Chi, and other energy healing therapies can have powerful positive effects on the chakra system.  Moreover, they offer a gentle and comfortable way to balance your energy centres.  Additionally, if you feel as if you’re in survival mode, or you’ve experienced a chronic illness, energy healing can be a useful place to start your healing journey.

Meditation

Since we know the brain is unable to distinguish between reality and imagination, meditation can also be a powerful way to imagine our chakras into balance.  In fact, you can use animal symbols (listed in the table below) and crystals to support you in your meditation practice.

Coaching & Emotional Work

Coaching and emotional release work can be another impactful method for working with archetypal shifts, reframing unhelpful childhood programming and mentally easing your chakras into balance.  Personally, I always recommend pairing mindset shift work with physical exercise to increase the impact of both.
