Challenging Times Require Resilience

Everyone on the planet faces challenges at some point in their life or another.  In fact, facing challenges is a fundamental part of our growth and development.  Since we can’t always prevent stumbling blocks in life, it’s important to know that challenging times require resilience.  What’s more, we all have an abundance of resilience deep inside.  The key is working out how to activate it.

What Is Emotional Resilience?

Emotional resilience is when you are able to calm your frantic mind after encountering a negative experience. It is intrinsic motivation, an inner force by which we can hold ourselves through all the downsides of life.

Generally, we don’t release fear, we find the courage to overcome the feeling of fear inside.  Similarly, we find resilience inside to overcome the feelings of being blocked or challenged.

How Do You Build More Emotional Resilience?

This article suggests five different ways to build a greater level of emotional resilience.  They are:

  1. Change The Narrative – change your mindset and what you tell yourself about it in your monologue.
  2. Face Your Fears – if we face what we’re worried about, often the experience is far less challenging than we imagine in our mind.
  3. Practice Self-Compassion – effectively this just involves being nicer to yourself!
  4. Meditate – even meditating 15 minutes per day can help you release fear and anxiety.
  5. Practice Forgiveness.  When we can forgive ourselves and others we feel more empowered. What’s more, we feel happier!
