It’s Time To Take Ownership Of Your Body

We Continue To Separate From Our Body - Is It Time To Reconnect?

Human health is in a challenging place.  According to the WHO, Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) kill 41 million people each year, equivalent to 71% of all deaths globally.[1] Moreover, in 2020 we’re  experiencing a global pandemic and stress-related illnesses is prevalent. [2]  In fact, I can’t help but wonder whether we’ve lost the ability to create good health!  Is it time to take back ownership of our body?  That is to say, has the idea of our body as a separate entity created room for sickness?

We Consider Our Bodies Separate From Our Mind

Indeed, modern medicine is so blinded by the concepts of ‘fixing’ and ‘curing’ it is unable to see the body as an artistic expression of our mind and soul.

Symptoms are no longer seen as symbols of the soul, they are merely a checklist of things to fix; logically and analytically.  Just as we might fix a microwave by rewiring or replacing parts, we approach fixing our bodies in the same way, as if they’re ‘not working’ as they should.

The Influence Of The Healthcare Industry

According to Statista, “As of end-2019, the value of the total global pharmaceutical market was 1.25 trillion U.S. dollars. This is a significant increase from 2001 when the market was valued at just 390 billion U.S. dollars.” [3]  Consequently, that’s a large amount of our money and focus placed on fixing illness, isn’t it?

To be clear, I’m not about to ‘bash’ modern medicine.  Modern medicine most certainly is worthy of a place in our lives and advances in the field are to be celebrated.  However, what I am suggesting is that perhaps we could consider where we want to place modern medicine in our lives.  For example, do we want to rely on modern medicine to fix our health after it has deteriorated?  Or could we consider it a worthy solution for emergency medicine?

Can We Take More Responsibility & Ownership?

Specifically, could we live healthier lives by reducing our stress levels, eating more natural produce and finding ways to feed our soul?  Indeed, if we operated in this way, would we be more able to hear the early warning signs delivered through our bodies?  Moreover, could we feel more comfortable knowing this is merely a lack of harmony somewhere in our system?

Furthermore, might we feel more connected to our bodies if we considered our lifestyle, food and herbal supplements to create a nurturing environment to strengthen our immune system.  I wonder, how empowered would we feel if we felt totally responsible for our own health, in mind body and soul?

What Happens If We Take An Artist's Perspective?

Your body is your masterpiece. Art is defined as “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture.” Your body is the most sonorous expression of your mind and soul.

Art is alive. You are alive. We are so determined to fight death, to deny death we have lost our awareness of the living piece of artwork and expression we travel around in every day. Your soul and mind are articulated in a plethora of artistic forms in your body. From movement, shape, dress and gesture, to the energetic flow through your internal organs to the eruptions or shine on your skin.

If we can transform our mindset about health to one which views a symptom as a foible of the body’s personality, we can use that information as a guide to the source of disharmony. We can heal from the inside out. We can take back the ownership of our health by OWNING our artistic expression.

The Transition Is Challenging If We Think In Terms of Blame

When we start to think of the body as the poetical outcome of our creative imagination, the 3D concept of blame and fault gets in the way.  For example, some people speak out against the metaphorical or symbolic view of illness since it leads to blaming people for their physical sickness.  Indeed, that’s the last place we want to be, since blame is restrictive rather than expansive into the imagination.

However, if we can think of sickness as the body trying to guide us, or perhaps trying to vocalise separation or pain in the soul, it leads us to a more positive perspective.  If we approach signs of sickness with gratitude, and consider them to tools for healing guidance at a deeper level, we can begin to take ownership of bodies and direct healing towards the source.

Honestly, it’s challenging to move from the place of ‘not ownership’.  Avoiding the responsibility for the outcomes in our physical reality can feel safe.  Moreover, it gives us a sense of control.  However, if we address blame and examine its role in defending us from ownership of any misalignment in our thoughts and behaviour, we deliver a greater overall sense of impact in our lives.

What If Taking Ownership Of Our Bodies Allows Us To Perceive As Pure Soul Expression

The connection between how we feel emotionally and spiritually and how we present in our bodies physically is very old.  I first discovered the correlation between emotions and health and or sickness when I did my Reiki training some 20 years ago.

Additionally, the Eastern approach to medicine continues to acknowledge the link.  All energy healing therapies from Chinese Medicine to Kinesiology, from Ayurveda to Reiki all treat the body based on emotion and soul connection.  From this perspective, just like art, we renovate and renew, rather than fix.

In the 15th century, Marsilio Ficino suggested that “Mars dissolves the intestines.”  My interpretation is that he links anger to problems in the intestine and our ability to digest life.  Either way, modern medicine has proved that emotions link to our health. [4]

In fact, the way I think about taking ownership of your body is this.  Do I want to be constantly hoping there is a fix for an illness that may happen to me?  Or would I prefer to listen to the early symbols presented by my body and dive in deep to build my immune system?

Facing Our Fears Starts The Journey Towards Wholeness And Healing

Fear and Denial of death stand between you and ownership of your artistic expression. The strength of your immune system is determined by your FEAR IMMUNITY.  How much do you buy into fear on a daily basis?

Moreover, remember that you are bombarded with fear messages. Depending on where you live, you’ll see advertisements for drugs to fix this problem and that problem. Even the concept of health insurance suggests that you’re going to get sick.

Hence, pay attention to the information you’re exposing yourself too. Specifically, what are you watching on the news? What articles are you reading online? With whom are you conversing and what are you talking about? A good test is to ask yourself whether you’re behaviour is always moving away from sickness or promoting and maintaining health. Precisely what concept is at the forefront of your mind?

Accordingly, when it comes to fear, we want to bring it out into the light.  Effectively, we can only see it for what it is when we stare it in the face. In fact, the more you choose to acknowledge It, the easier it is to release it. Draw back the curtain and re-connect with your healing abilities and your unique artistic creation.

In can’t help but wonder if we can heal our soul, perhaps we can heal everything outside of us.  Indeed, can we harmonise everything in the outer world, including our relationships with others and the planet?

Moreover, if our fear immunity is high and our focus is on health, would there even be a requirement for vaccinations?

A Little Mindset Support

One way to support ourselves as we begin to stare the reality of our fear in the face is to maintain balance in our ROOT CHAKRA or our foundational energy centre.  This 30-minute meditation on my YouTube channel will guide you into root chakra balance and alignment.

Here’s a little RUMI reminder to get you on your way. “Stop acting so small. You are the universe in ecstatic motion.”
