Animal Spirit Guides Birds of Prey

Animal Spirit Guides Birds of Prey

Animal Spirit Guides Birds of Prey Represent Vision And Freedom

All birds of prey have incredibly sharp eyesight to help them locate and catch their prey. What’s more, they fly high and free, taking a broad perspective and seeing the ‘big picture’.  Therefore, the core message when we work with animal spirit guides birds of prey is vision and perspective.  Specifically, birds of prey can help us gain focus and clarity, see all the opportunities and operate from a less emotional perspective.

Let’s face it, we all get bogged down in over-thinking sometimes.  Consequently, we can call in birds of prey to help us clear our mind and develop a laser-like focus to create what we want in our lives.

Additionally, birds are ancient, free spirits and highly intelligent.  As spirit animals, they also bring us messages.  If you think about all the birds in literature and mythology, often they bring us messages from the divine or from afar.

Different Birds Bring Different Messages

Each bird of prey brings a slightly different meaning.  Additionally, we must always know that the message delivered by an animal spirit guide or totem is just for us.  As a result, we want to tailor any generic meanings to what feels appropriate for each of us.  If you follow my Birds of Prey meditation at the end of this article, you will see which bird appears to you and be able to interpret the meaning.

To support you, I’ve noted some of the associations with the common birds of prey below.

The Eagle

For hundreds of years, Native American tribes have associated the Eagle with vision, wisdom, and strength. The predatory nature of the Eagle links to ownership and responsibility. Eagles symbolise new beginnings, healing, co-operation with nature and taking responsibility.  This beautiful bird also links to the crown chakra and suggests we’re on the spiritual path. Here are additional symbolic meanings for the Eagle:

  • Intuition
  • Creativity
  • Strength, Courage & Resilience
  • Optimism
  • Healing
  • Groundedness

The Hawk

The hawk represents our ability to use intuition and higher vision in order to complete tasks or make important decisions.  It can also teach us to get out of the details and expand our awareness.

Linked to the third eye chakra, it’s a message to go within and find our inner wisdom.  As a result, hawk energy can help us to increase our confidence, explore all the choices available and direct our attention with laser-like focus.  Finally, the hawk reminds us about self-care.  Specifically, it’s important to get enough sleep and to deliver the right nutrients to keep us on top hunting form.  The hawk also links to the Osprey.

You can use the hawk energy to:

  • Step into leadership
  • Become more decisive
  • Trust your intuition
  • Expedite your spiritual growth
  • Enhance your observation skills
  • Eliminate distractions
  • Get out of details and find the big picture

The Falcon/The Kite

Falcons fly high and then dive to hunt at speeds of over 100 miles per hour – WOW! These rapid creatures remind us to keep our goals in sight, think on our feet and take swift decisive action to achieve them.

At its core, the falcon signifies wisdom, vision, and protection. This beautiful and powerful creature can awaken your visionary power and bring you closer to your life goals, delivering rapid change where you want it most.

The falcon also reminds us that to truly shine, to deliver our passion to the world, we must research and prepare before taking action.  Diving in without a goal rarely catches the prey you want!

What’s more, there’s nowhere to hide with this bird.  It reminds us to take off our mask and let the world see who we really are.  Moreover, self care and energy work support us in accessing our true selves.

You can use the falcon energy to:

  • Be more flexible
  • Trust our instincts
  • Be true to ourselves
  • Achieve our goals
  • Think quickly under pressure
  • Find and work in our passion

The Owl

The owl is one of my personal favourites, mainly because of the mystery surrounding these glorious creatures.  This nocturnal bird has incredible night vision. Moreover, it can also turn its head 270 degrees around, which is incredible in itself! This physical flexibility translates into a spiritual representation of profound intuition and an awareness of the happenings at every level of our being. The owl also correlates with the divine feminine, allowing us to use our sight beyond sight to garner the reality of a situation.

The eyes of the owl adjust in an instant from telescopic to microscopic. Spiritually, this translates to an ability to see accurately through time.  I like to think of putting on ‘owl glasses’ and suddenly being able to see what was always there through a totally new awareness.

Interestingly, the Owl may call on us to release the past and let go of old burdens that hold us back. Moreover, by facing our darkness or our fears, we can release them to find happiness and joy.

Actually, Native Americans regard the Owl as a conjuror who is silent and fierce. Additionally, they believe the owl warns us of oncoming death. For me, this association of death relates more to the cycle of life. As a harbinger of truth, particularly to self, the owl brings death to the old stories we tell and the magical rebirth of our true self.

Even more interesting, owl’s ears are not symmetrical and one sits higher than the other; this allows sound to be heard separately in the individual ear. The result is almost perfect hearing in stereo. How amazing is that?

Owl Mythology & Symbolism

The Celts and Egyptians saw the Owl as a gatekeeper to other realms and dimensions, particularly the souls of the dead.

In Greece, the Owl is a protector. If an owl flew over an army, it suggested a victory, because the owl could see from a higher perspective.  What’s more, the owl was the companion to the Goddess of Athena, linking this incredible noctural bird to wisdom and strategy.

The following traits and values are represented by the owl:

  • Death and Rebirth
  • True Seeing & Watchfulness
  • Discretion & Privacy
  • Knowledge & Learning
  • Ancient Wisdom & Access to Akashic Records
  • Power of Silence
  • Attention to Details & Seeing the Big Picture
  • Timelessness
